Who Saw You Like That?
WHO SAW YOU LIKE THAT?
Was it your parent? Your best friend? Your neighbor? A church member? A casual acquaintance?
Someone has been watching you and spilling your tea. They have been patiently waiting like a fly on the wall to catch you in a compromising position or somehow out of character just so they can have some gossip to tell someone else about you. Their goal is to draw others into their conversations that make you look bad all because of a moment of weakness that they witnessed never considering what might have brought you to the place they found you in.
Let’s consider Noah through Genesis chapters 6-8. God saw that man’s wickedness was so great in the earth that He had concluded that He wanted to destroy every living thing and start over. But He also decided to start over using Noah’s family because, according to Genesis 6:8, Noah had found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
From start to finish Noah was responsible for the building of a three-story ark, that was almost 1 ½ times the length of a football field, to God’s exact specifications which included the collecting and daily care of pairs of every living creature on earth, normal daily care of his family and, not to mention, carrying the knowledge that every other living thing on earth would be destroyed. Noah endured a tremendous amount of stress in his life. And that’s just an overview. But after ALL that there came a time when Noah was caught off guard and was put on front street by one of the very ones who should have had his back.
Let’s look at Genesis 9:20-29. In this snapshot we see that after the flood Noah had become a farmer and had planted a vineyard. Using the grapes from that vineyard Noah made himself some wine and in the privacy of his home, got drunk and fell asleep naked.
Ham, one of his sons was that proverbial fly on the wall and saw the nakedness of his father. He decided to take the information of his father’s drunken nakedness to his brothers. Ham didn’t consider the enormity of the pressure that his father might have carried for many years nor did he think of the embarrassment he might feel after being exposed, even to those who are close to him. Ham was critical and judgmental and “told on him”.
On the other hand, the two older brothers, Shem and Japheth, refused to entertain what their younger brother had to say. As a matter of fact, when they found out they took great pains to grab a blanket, turn away from their father so they could not see his nakedness, and walked BACKWARDS to cover him.
If you should ever happen to be that “fly on the wall” be sure that you are NOT the immature one who spreads the gossip. Before you criticize or judge have a conversation with the person you are tempted to talk about. Pray with them and for them.
The truth of the matter is that God saw Noah’s life from beginning to end and He deemed him to be the one who would restart mankind.
The truth is God knows the same thing about you and because of that it doesn’t matter what other people think or say about you, even at your worst.
So, it really doesn’t matter WHO SAW YOU LIKE THAT because you are still who Gods says you are.
