"Are You My Friend"
ARE YOU MY FRIEND?
What kind of friend are you? What kind of friend do you want to have? What kind of friend do you aspire to be?
Background: I Samuel describes the transition of from Judges to Kings for the Israelites. This request was made by them with the full knowledge of what would come along with it as described in I Samuel 8.
Samuel was the last judge and first prophet of Israel. David was the second king chosen by God who was in training even while the first king, Saul, was in position.
In I Samuel 15 King Saul was officially rejected by the Lord as King because of his disobedience.
In I Samuel 16 David was anointed as king while still a young shepherd boy and Saul was still reigning as king in Israel.
In I Samuel 17 David defeated the giant Goliath for mocking God when all the other “soldiers” quaked in fear.
In I Samuel 18 David and Saul’s oldest son, Jonathon, became close friends while at the same time, King Saul became fearful of David as he recognized that his favor and influence with God was decreasing as David’s was increasing.
